When I tried to start my 1985 740 GLE after stopping at the store the other day all the electrical was dead. I found that the the replacement clamp on the positive battery cable was loose. I cleaned the clamp, tightened it back onto the cable and everything worked fine driving home.
The next day, my wife got on the freeway and the overdrive on the M46 manual transmission would not engage. I tried jumping the OD switch in the gearshift and that did not fix it. I checked the connections to the solenoid, they were fine. All the fuses are fine also.
The old dear has 240,000 miles and is relatively sound. Before I start ordering a replacement solenoid, does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?
