My daughter has a 1979 244, a gift from her grandmother. A little history on this car: about 2 years ago it would not start, so I took it to a trusted, but not Volvo-astute mechanic. He determined that the cold start injector wasn't firing properly, so his fix for the problem was to install a push button the would operate the cold start injector (push the button while starting a count to 2). This has worked reliably until now.
Last Sunday my daughter (it's her car)tries to start it. It runs for 4 to 5 second with the button pushed in, then dies. It won't run any longer regardless how long the button is depressed and won't run at all without pushing the button.
I since found a Volvo specialist garage. Their guess without looking at it is that the fuel distributor has failed. Their repair estimate for this is $1,200.00. These are available for about $400.00 rebuilt by Bosch. I would like a second (or more) opinion as to what might be wrong (besides the cheesy push button).
Thanks in advance for your help.
