Well - I knew it was going but it finally gave up a few days ago. So the 240 is now laid up for a variety of repairs, as the windows mist up in winter weather.
I have the basic procedure for changing the motor, but wanted advice as to what else to change whilst everythings dismantled around the dash. I'm not overly familiar with what wears out on the heater controls.
There's a lot to do on the car and I'm trying to get a parts list together - have had to get a 740 to drive in the meantime.
Just in case I've wrongly diagnosed it, the symptoms were:
the heater began to make a 'squawk' when switched on or off, then after a while barely worked with the switch in position I or II (III was OK), then it quit altogether after emitting a mild burning smell. It briefly came back to life again, squawking away in sw/position III, but is not reliable enough for daily use.
I am familiar with the 'drill and lube' fix, but as there is a whole list of items to deal with I decided to go the way of replacement.
Thanks for any advice
