Worried about oil consumption 200 1993

Hi: Our wagon started to burn oil about 5-10K miles ago. The car currently has about 185K on the original engine. Our mechanic said not to worry, but reading through posts, it appears our car is the exception, not the rule. There are no leaks, it's been checked. Should we be worried ? BTW, it uses about 1 qt of oil per around 2K miles. We hoped to keep this car for many more years but are starting to worry !!! Any thoughts, advice. Thanks
