I started the car up this morning and after about the third try it started and ran pretty well. I let it idle for about five minutes to warm it up. I then headed off in it to get the exhaust system replaced- the old one was in poor shape. I found as I pulled out of the drive way that the car wouldn't really accellerate very fast and that once I reached about 20mph it would only accelerate very slowly- even with the gas pedal to floor. Also once I got to about 20-30mph I couldn't keep my gas pedal on the floor because the engine would start coughing/hesitating and even slow a bit. If I backed off on the gas a bit it would run okay, but it had not accelerating ability. It would take me about 5minutes to get to 40mph. I could never get going any faster than about 42mph and that would only happen if I had a long stretch to slowly get to that speed. After getting the exhaust stuff done, I was driving it back, stopped for lunch and was trying to leave the parking lot, but the car just wouldn't move much more than a crawl and then it just kept dying after I would start it. I lifted the hood and the larger hose that goes to the flame trap wasn't staying on the air intake hose. I got a clamp and itz holding it on and it seemed to run fine. Still no accelerating ability, but it ran. Then about 3 or 4 miles later as I was starting to go after the light had turned green it just wouldn't accelerate and was just barely moving. I managed to limp out of the intersection, but not long after I parked on the side of the road it died. I was naturally much not happy!!! I yanked the hood up looked around and everything seemed fine. I checked the hose I'd clamped on the air intake hose and it looked fine. I started the car and it started okay and idled okay, but after a few minutes the idle slowed a bit and then stalled. I repeated this several times and then knew it wasn't going any further. I looked at the temp gauge and it showed a little hot, but not very close to the red. Does anyone have any ideas? Please help! Thanks. PFHarper@cox.net
