Exhaust leak 700

I'm trying to fix an exhaust leak on my ' 87 740 GLE wagon. It appears that a PO has removed the round plug just before the converter. It doesn't look like a hole that has rotted through or anything. Can I just get a new plug and be good to go?

I think the reason that it was removed was because the PO thought that the cat was plugged. The car ran poorly when I got it, but I replaced the AMM and it runs much better. I just want to make it quiet now.

Thanks in advance.
Dave
