I have a 1992 Volvo 240 ever since I bought the car in 2005 I noticed the following problems:
1. The only one of the vent direction buttons work. I what I am probally improperly describing is the cars vent direction control ( Defrost, Vent, or Bottom vent).
The bottom vent and the recycle air button works, but the defrost button doesn't. Therefore driving in the rain or conditions that cause condensation on the windows is very hard. I have to manually shut the vents so the air will flow only out of the defrost vents. When I press the other buttons I hear a suction sound that I don't hear when I press the defrost button. When I changed the glove box out I noticed that the noise was a vaccume driven arm or some sort.
This also causes a problem in the summer because the AC will go out through the defrost and then cause frost on the windshield. This summer I used black duct tape to remedy this. But then I can't defrost the window.
What's involved in fixing this. I didn't see this in Bentley.
2. When I drive my car, air always flows trough the vents. If I shut them manually the air flows out of the defrost vents. If I have the heater temp sliding switch in the heat zone the heater cuts on and even it the blower isn't on the air flows. Often I have to lower the windows. In the spring/fall its also a problem as heat will flow in to the car even if the sliding switch is on cool, its not hot like hear from the heater but it warm, or room temp.
I was told once on Brickboard to plug where the pre heat house used to attach to the air intake box. That didn't fix it.
What is air flowing into the car when ever I drive more than 5 MPH? What is the correct fix?
3. Heater: Is there a way to lower the heater's intensity? I can barely have it in the middle of the slider and the heat is intense.
