Our 740 wagon died one day a year or so ago. After having two mechanics wrestle with it and not diagnose the problem, you guys solved it. It was a $35 coolant temp senson that cost me 6+ hours of labor.
The car runs now, but misses badly when first started and is extemely slow 'off the line' even when warm. It was never a burner, but it's ridiculous now. It seemed to be starting to run better as I ran a fresh tank of premium through it with techron cleaner. But now that it's getting cold here in Mass. you can hardly start it. Previously it would start right up, but it would be hard sometimes to keep it running for the first 10-15 seconds. Plugs are fine, I haven't looked at much else other than to make sure there were no mice living in the air cleaner, which there weren't, and the filter is clean.
This car was always well maintained as it was the family car that carried the wife and kids. I'd like to get it running halfway decent to sell it without spending much more on it. When ECT was bad it was dumping fuel into the cylinders and flooding.
Would oxygen sensor be a place to start? Any other thoughts?
Thanks,
Scott
