88 240 Oil Consumption 200 1988

OK, 88 240 - ~ 150K miles

Car is using a qt of oil in 400 miles. I'm using 10W30.

There is no leak - we park the car in the same spot all the time, there's no drips at all.

I've been cleaning the flame trap regularly, changing it annually with tune up.

There's no visible smoke at exhaust! Compression is good - even across all 4 cyl and within spec. Leak down test was marginal on #4 cyl.

I suspect the oil is being lost through the head, and going out through the exhaust.

Emissions test just failed - no surprise - too high on NOx and HC. I suspect that NOx is high because the cat is fouled.

Can this be fixed without a huge investment in an engine or head rebuild?
