960 goes into neutral 900

I have a 1993 960 wagon. When I come to a stop periodically the car seems to go into neutral. Several times it was actually in 3rd gear and triggered the up arrow along with the alternating W and E lights. I replaced the PNP switch. However, the problem still exists. There is a code 1-1-4 from the diagnostics (Mode 1). Any ideas on what to try next? What is the program selector? Is that the W,S and E assembly?
