Blower motor replacement: Non-ac version 200 1988

Hi,

thanks for all the great info here. I've been reading a lot on the dreaded blower motor replacement, and have finally gathered the courage to do this during Christmas, when I'll have access to a proper garage (with heating).

I have bought the Volvo replacement part 9131984, which is the full assembly with motor, fan and resistor. The thing is, I can't really picture this fan/motor in any of the pictorials I have seen, and it definitely looks like it's a different part for the AC equipped cars and the ones without AC. The pictorial on cleanflametrap.com is the AC version.

When I look at the AC version replacements, it looks as if the motor and its driveshaft is going from left to right, that is along the dash from driver's side to the passenger side, or have I got that wrong? For if I take out the airduct in the middle of the dash on my car, I can see straight into the blower housing (at least when I open the airmix flap), and then I can see the fan sitting there, but headed towards the engine department. Ie. the driveshaft and the fan points to front instead of going from side to side. It also is angled a bit upwards, and the motor seems to be mounted at an angle in the housing.

I find it hard to describe such things in English, but do you get the picture? My question is if the procedure anyway is roughly the same for the non ac-version as the ac version, and if it will be any more difficult, or hopefully less so?

Thanks.
