96 960 shift-lock button stuck 900

The shift-lock button is jammed in the "pressed-in" position, but the shifter will not move out of park. If I remove the shifter cover, exposing the square metal post with the shifter release post coming up through it, I can push down on the release post and move the shift lever. So my button is jammed in, but it is not releasing the shift lock.

Any thoughts? Thanks.
