Leaking coolant around thermostat housing after thermostat change 200 1988

I replaced my thermostat and o ring seal when I flushed the coolant last summer. I have noticed a small trickle of coolant around the thermostat housing now. It's not even enough to leave a spot under the car, but I want to eliminate it completely. How tight should I tighten the bolts on the housing? I may have crushed the o ring, I guess. Also, should I use any rtv gasket on the housing? I don't have a torque wrench, so an answer giving a ballpark figure on tightness will be good. Brett
