Hey Brickboarders

I recently was hanging out with an old friend of mine and took him for a ride in my '84 245. He enjoyed it, and we then had a long conversation about Volvo's. He mentioned to me his girlfriend is looking for a car and I told him a 240 is a good option.

He recently sent me a follow-up email:

Here's what he asked...

Looking for Volvos or other good used cars. What can you offer for
advise? Probably want something between $1000-$4000. Needs to be
reliable but can be a beater. What do you look for in used Volvos?

Soooo, I'm going to turn this question to the Brickboarders, as some of you certainly have more history than I.

I'm not sure if he's after a wagon...let's assume for the moment it'll be a 244. Also, since it's for his girlfriend, let's shoot for an airbag. What to look for, and lookout for.
