240 OD Question 200

The OD on my 89 240 quit again today. I have had instances of OD problems in the past, but, this time its different. Before, I had the typical "intermittent" OD failure. Repaired OD relay fixed problem. This time (1.5 yrs later) the OD light comes ON and won't go out. Repalced the OD relay and problem fixed for 1 week. Same problem today. I have read many of the OD post on this forum and will check the wiring and solenoid next. My question is if a wiring problem is detected, could that possibly damage the new relay just installed?
