I guess my winter beater is now doing the beating (of me). A new acquition a week ago. It is a 1988 740 FI wagon w/ M47, AMM -007 ECU 0280000554.
The problem is it will just die. Idling, driving after about 5-10 minutes. It won't fire up right away. Wait a couple of minutes & it starts.
It is definately the ignition. After it dies there is no spark. It is not the power stage or ignition coil, swapped both w/ working versions. Judging from how the ignition computer wasn't sitting in it's cradle above driver's knee well that's my bet. The previous owner has been less than honest as I've found going over the car.
From info. I found it is a LH 2.2 ignition.
Anyone have an idea ECU or ignition control computer or other? I'm working my way thru the Brick & other info. Someone last year described this exact fault on Ebay. They said it was the ignition computer causing random death w/ revival after a couple of minutes.
Thanks ibs740
