Removing a 1972 145S Steering Wheel 140-160

I need to pull the steering wheel on my 1972 145S. The factory manuals tells me to use a steering wheel puller part number SVO 2972. That is a unique puller and it turns out pretty hard to locate. My steering wheel looks like new so I don’t want to jury rig something that would damage it.

When I look at tha picture of the upper steering column, it looks like the heel seats on a combination taper and straight shat threaded at the top to attach and hold the steering wheel, no splines, no key. I am familiar with tight tolerance tapers that were used on motorcycles. You used a three jaw puller to apply tensions and hit the flywheel with a rubber hammer to spring it free. I am scared of doing this to my steering wheel.

Any recommendations, please?

Thanks,
