Overheating 200 1980

Recently I took posession of a 1980 262c. Beautiful car, very nice body and interior, but not running. The car was overheated and I bought it not knowing to what extent the engine was damaged, but knowing what can happen to such an engine when this occurs. There is some oil in the water jackets around the cylinders, but no water in the sump and no oil in the radiator to speak of. I have the intake and heads off and so far we have no evidence of any failed gaskets. Heads have pressure tested good and are flat! The cylinders show no signs of loss of lubrication and are visibly smooth and clean with a good film of oil still on them, so I don't think we have any sunken liners. Would anyone with more experience with the V-6 care to weigh in on what might have occured? I still think we might have had seepage past a gasket, but I'd love some further input rather than just bolting it back together blind.

Thanks,

Dave
