Help! Need to remove instrument cluster, FAQ unclear 900 1994

Hey guys, maybe you have pulled a 940 instrument cluster.

The FAQ states push hard and pull toward you with the shaft of the screwdriver.

Mine doesn't budget; either side. One thing that makes it tough is, besides the screwdriver, there is nothing to pull on. The edges of the cluster are seamlessly covered by its surround.

Hmm...as you can see in the picture, the entire black plastic surround is NOT in place. The FAQ says nothing about removing it first; do I have to? If so, how? There are no discernible tabs, screws etc.

Thanks for any advice. Trying to get at the ambient temp indicator lamp.
