1991 240 gasoline,
i think/hope i have a fuel supply,or a vacuum problem.
My symptoms few weeks ago, cold wet rainy day,car would not start, spray starter fluid in and it would try to fire, it cranked once, ran horribly, shaking, & white smoke from the tailpipe, stalls out.....next day cold wet still will not crank, next warm day cranks fine, so i find my air intake has a split in it, so i fix it and think all is solved, but on cold days it seems to need to have the gas pedal pumped and a lot of attempts to crank and getting worse. Today it will not crank and its a warm day, if i spray starter fluid it starts and if i press the gas it increases rpm, but soon stalls like its got no gas flow and was running on starter fluid?
When driving at 70 MPH let foot of gas coast to 60 MPH or "40 to 30" then push the gas pedal all the way, it stalls, then seems to rev higher than the speed increase, like all the engine power is not going where it should? Now if i very softly press the gas pedal i can increase as much as i want, just with no sudden increases. same deal at stop to go, if i floor it it stalls and sputters.
I have had the car a few months, and the next thing i gotta replace is the muffler, its in poor shape, just thought id include that in case it could have any effect? also seems high RPM it goes 35mph to 40mph foot off te gas.
i have read in Brickboard fourms about cleaning relays and throttle position switch, Fuel pressure regulators, how do i test these things? and i guess do a visual inspection for the vacuum lines?
Thank you! i always good advice here!
