Hello; in regards to our '98 S90, and its not starting, and all warning lights on, along with an 'up' arrow:
So, after reading all the problems with the PNP switch, and since I seemed to be having similar problems (insturment lights on , including up arrow, won't start sometimes, will others) I thought for sure that was the issue, intermitant, rowing shifter helped sometimes, etc. And, finially, would not start at all, ever. So, got new PNP switch from the dealer ($99) hour to take old one out, hour to put new one in, and, same symptoms, all warning lights on, will not start, plus now, emergency lights on, and will not go off. As another problem is the light for the gear position indicator dead, I decided to take off the shifter and try to fix that, so did, but low and behold, lots of unconnected wires. Hmmm......
So, I suspect this is where the problem is. Main issue is the multi-wire ribbon that starts on the little curved circuit by the shifter, and has a red connector hardwired into that board, and the ribbon wire goes down into the shifter mechanism, on the left side, where it terminates to another hardwired red connector, whose top has come off, and the ribbon wire is hanging loose. There are also three loose single wires, one green and one black, as well as a wire that goes to the indicator light (white i think)
The single wires are not a big issue, I just got today the green book wiring diagrams for this car, but I am concerned about the ribbon and its connector that has come loose.
I would be interested to hear if anyone has delt with this problem in the past, and how was it resolved. Is it a matter of taking everything apart, and replacing the two 'things' the muti wire ribbon connect to, or is there another, hidden, headache, that will make this a real pain to repair.
Any comments are greatly appreciated
