940 Timing Chain/Belt 900 1994

Ok, today after I finished putting in a new heater hose I noticed that the cover on my timing belt/chain was broken, along the line of where the belt runs... I looked at the belt and appeared to be off the ______ (circular things that spin with the belt) about a 1/2 inch. Do I need a new timing belt/chain, or is pushing it back in place going to do the trick.. Any help even remotely unrelated would be greatly appreciated....
