Installation of CD Player in Early 80's 242 200

Hi Guys,

I'm considering buying and installing an Alpine CD Player (model 9856) in a well cared for 82 242 (HD alternator will help handle the load, new wiring harnesses are in place, Infinity Kapa's to be installed in the front 4" spots). The CD player will go in the lower console, where the old radio/cassette now resides. I plan to purchase a front adapter plate for the new unit, along with the wiring harness (from Crutchfield).

I understand that the Alpine unit will need a "support strap" mounted in the read to provide stability to the unit when in place. I believe the old Volvo radio has such a support strap of this kind. However, I'm not sure 1) if this is true and 2) whether this stock strap will work with the Alpine unit.

Does anyone out there have experience with installing new/newer Alpine head units in the lower console of the 240's? If so do you know if the old Volvo mounting strap (if it's there) will work with the Alpine unit? If not, do you have suggestions on how to secure the new unit? Any other mounting factors I should keep in mind? Thanks.

Regards, Dave
