Headliner cleaning 700

I know this has come up before but I have yet to read of a successful (ie cleans without causing damage) cleaning of a dirty headliner. It seems that the problem is that cleaners cause the glue to fail. SO what is the latest? Has anyone found a way to clean the headliner?

If anyone has any old headliner material, I would love to have a few bits to experiment with.
