battery voltage/coolant temperature gauges slow to register 700 1989

I've got a new (to me) 745 turbo. I've noticed that the dashboard guages for battery voltage, fuel level, and coolant temperature don't always read when the car is first turned on. After 5 miles/5 minutes of driving they do register. It seems really wierd that the wiring harness would be temperature sensitive like this. Anything I should check immediately before following the appropriate wires from sender to guage with a multimeter?
