me versus the fender roller 200

What a day.

I rented & finally received the fender rolling tool (rollyourfender.com).

Fortunately, Mr Pimp Hand is self employed. So, after "taking off" work in order to put a stop to the slight rubbing in the rear caused by the front wheel drive Volvo rims (16 x 6.5 x 43mm offset), rear spacers (at 32mm), and 215/50 Hankook k106s.

Well, what I thought was a fender lip roller really turned out to be a fender lip smasher.

This tool is better suited to the front wheel drive, thin sheet metal, ricer burner crowd than it is for us Euro guys. The rear wheel arches on a 240 are not symmetrical (more like tear drop shaped) and made the job amazingly harder than it should be.

Plus, the sheet metal in the 240's lip is way thick and actually better suited to removal with a cut off wheel.

Major drama eventually turned into total rage. And, to add insult to stupidity, I broke the tool to ultimately cap off a major waste of my time.

#1: Rear wheel drive makes this an effort because the car had to be on jack stands in order to get the tool to "rotate". However, the tool does not walk the lip in any way. You crush a section, move & reset it, and crush another section. Not clean & neat at all. Very ghetto.

#2: The distance from the axle hub to the fender lip was an odd distance not supported by the tool's settings & length of its arm. Some parts of the lip needed to be rolled with the spacer on, other parts with the spacer off. By the way, it's nearly impossible to remove the spacer with the car's rear wheels off the ground.

Would have taken pics of the "process" but my digital camera fell from the roof of my car and broke into pieces.

Then, after loosing it and putting everything back together after butchering, or rolling, 4" to 6" of fender, I pull onto the highway near my storage locale & a lady kicks up a rock that cracks my front window.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggg.

My advice: if you want front wheel drive rims, this tool will not work on a 240 so dont bother to rent it.

Get some tape and a cut off wheel and you'll be good to go.

Fortunately, the guy at rollyourfender.com refunded ALL my money.
