760 just won't start 700 1990

My wife's 1990 760 (until now) daily driver "died" - restarted - ran about 2 miles home. Then started a few times - finally died - I verified that there was no spark. Wife doesn't remember if the tach dropped immediately, and it seems not to move when I try to start it. The FI relay seems OK - the fuel pump cycles when the key is turned on and it cranks fast enough. Brief history: 220K on chassis, about July06, AC compresser siezed and fried part of the right side harness, the lead from the compresser and melted the ECC power relay (Under the dash). I replaced the burned harness and relay and everything ran well until now. Don't know if this is at all relevant, but it has been the only electrical problem besides a failed switch on the shift lever.

So far I have replaced the crank position sensor, the FI (interference) relay with new ones, and tried good ignition power stages and coils. Nada. I have done nothing with the TPS, but I'm not sure it would totally disable the engine. In desparation, I disconnected the ECU with no change. The only problem with any of the connectors was to the crank position sensor - the female receivers (on the harness) seemed loose, so, tightened and verified continuity thru the plug, but still nothing.

Any help would be appreciated. I do know a good indy-garage nearby and have no problem (other than cash) calling the hook, but it would be hard to take if it turns out to be something simple that I should have known. Thanks all.
