O2 sensor 900 1995

Here's a real brainteaser for all you Meistermechaniker out there:
Every time my 1995 964 gets wet, the Check Engine Light goes on. The fault code it displays is 232. I reset it, and it doesn't come on again until I drive through the car wash or go through other wet driving conditions.
What's the problem? Faulty O2 sensor or a missing cover or what?
Please help.
