New steering u-joint bad?? 200

I just replaced a bad lower steering u-joint with an aftermarket made by Maval. After just putting on 100 miles or so I noticed that the new u-joint has play in it allready. I determined that the play is the cross section moving back in forth within the fork. This doesn't seem right. My orginal had play within the joint but the cross didn't move within the fork. Opinions please. Is the Maval unit a POS??
