In Tank Fuel Pump - Regina - Check this out ! 700 1992

Volvoists,

Thanks for the advice and ecouragement last weekend when I was dealing with Tweedledee and Tweedledumb's feeble attempt at replacing the fuel pump (motor) in my 92' B230F Wagon.

After the 572.00 repair bill I paid for - and a non fucntioning Volvo the very next morning I provided Captain Nimrod's "Garage of Excellence" with 3 chances to make good on his foul up and he blew each of the chances. So, I did the most insulting thing a guy could do to another guy who works on cars, I let the female spousal unit loose on him ! That poor bastard, she was in the middle of having her monthy cycle too ! I knew there would be at least one silver lining in this cloud, to my surprise there were many.

The Boss reclaimed a $250.00 cash return from Captain Nimrod and I got to keep the new pump motor. I armed her with a finely detailed exquisite hand drawing of what his "Master Mechanic" had done to my Volvo, brief yet accurate descirption on the function of each piece in the assembly, and exactly what they had fouled up when they half assed did the work on the sender assembly. The poor chap didn't stand a chance, oh well, he did it to humself, not me. All I wanted was my car fixed.

So, I fixed the pump assembly up the way you guys told me to. I took out the pulse dampener, replaced it with a length of "In Tank Grade" Fuel Hose, secured each hose to fuel tube connection with fuel line hose clamps, it came out really excellent.

I have not tested the pump yet, I have a car battery out in the shed from the 1986 740 B230FT Parts car which I plan to use to power the pump for a preinstallation Test Run tomorrow night.

I have reviewed and re-reviewed the Sender Install FAQ;s and found that using the string technique to compress the spring loaded piece to give a bit of extra clearance over the anti slosh channels in the tank. I did a couple of dry runs with the old spare 740Turbo sender assembly and found it was not too hard to get the pump seated into the correct position in the tank.

Do you have any suggestions for a pre install test run set up for the pump ?

Silver Linings:
Can now claim myself to be "advanced" in the art of Volvo Intank fuel senders as a result of YOUR help and some of my doing.

Refunded $250.00 of the $572.00 bogus repair bill.

Learned ANOTHER valuable lesson about my Volvo - Don't let some jackass work on it, even if I think I am being a nice guy and giving someone a chance based on their previous reputation. I have to learn and relearn this lessson over and over every few years !

Let the wife handle conflicts with mechanics, her techniques are effective AND entertaining ! (I am really proud of her).

AND to top it all off, the girl who I sold the 92 240 Sedan to last June - let her make payments on becuase she was having a tough go of it financially last summer, called me on Tuesday night and asked me if I "wanted the Volvo back" "For Free" -she came into a a lot of money and went out and bought a brand new Hyundai Sonata and is giving the 240 back to me for helping her - she knew I was almost in tears when I sold the car to her and is paying me back by giving it to me for free ! UNREAL huh ? I feel like MF Gustav of all Volvos as a result. Now, I have 3 Volvos ! 2 740 Wagons and the 240 Sedan. I feel as if I am getting nearer to Volvo Nirvana !
