The teenager's '93/'94 940 came home the other night and wouldn't start in the morning. No problems (says the teen)when she got home, but not even a dim light in the morn. The battery (was in the car when we bought it a year ago) was looking tired, no voltage, figured even if it took a charge would be on it's last legs, so bought a new one off the shelf at WalMart. Put it in and it still wouldn't start, still not even dim dome lights and eventually figured the battery was sitting on the shelf too long, put the charger on 'start' mode and the car fired right up. so I charged the battery overnight on a low (2A) mode and it fired up just fine the next day.
She drives it around and it dies on her. It gets towed to the house and the battery is dead so i figure it's not charging and charge the battery again and figure I'll take it to AutoZone or some such and have them test the charging system, but now it won't start at all. Even fully charged new battery on with the charger 'start' on start setting. I take the alternator off and have it tested and it comes up bad. I'll try to change the diodes or whatever using the FAQs, but still need to get the car to start with a full battery.
Finally the question: is there a fuse link and where might it be? Or what else could keep the car from starting again?
I have battery voltage at the #1 fuse behind the ashtray, but no accessories or anything will light up.
An aside - I can't get the transmission manual override to work, the one that lets me get the car out of Park so I can push it around etc. I've poked and prodded and tried to get it to work any ideas about that?
Thanks tons for your help. The teen's driving the wife's car in the mean time and it's tense around here.
