Cold weather = strange sound is back 200 1988

My '88 240GL wagon has a strange sound that only happens when the weather turns pretty cold (-15F this morning @ 7:00) but stops once the car warms up. It sounds like ice or something has been jammed under the right front wheel area and is grinding against the tire, wheel, or brake rotor. I have looked and found no such obstruction anywhere. Last year I posted the same thing and got some solid leads but nothing panned out. I think it may be one of two things. Either ice in the transmission housing (even possible?) or the sucking sound normally coming from the cracked vacuum hose is just more prolonged and pitched differently in the extra cold weather. No real problem, but annoyingly curious. A real nice car to own, love it. People assume that I payed way more for it than the $1200.00 I gave:) Any ideas? Thanks guys!
