Stupid radio question 900

After charging the battery, my radio needed the code, I have the code in hand but had to pull the radio to get the serial # and I guess with all the fumbling around I hit a few buttons so now the display says rPE (the top horzontal of the "E" is missing) Anyway my question is: will leaving the key in position 1 for 2 hrs clear this and display cOd again? or I remember reading a post that said somthing about pulling the fuse and sidestepping the 2 hour wait, can anyone tell me about that?
