No air from vents - after replacing heater fan... 700 1991

Last night at 11 PM while out taxiing my teenager the fan on my 740 quit.
Took the fan out this AM - checked voltages 12 V to motor but the fan motor
was dead.
I'd been taking it out annually and lubing it as it was squeaking after
the lower brg got wet a number of years ago so no loss,.

Picked up a replacement (from an 87 760) type today and installed it - turns fine at all speed settings.
The problem is I now have very little air coming out of any of the vents.

I had attempted to remove the controls this morning but didn't get too far as I couldn't get the radio out but did take the 4 screws out that hold the
climate control panel on but put them back in pdq after I realized it wouldn't just slide out.

The heat conrol works - I can vary the heat.
The rotory control that directs the air to the windshield, or from the dash or at your feet works.
The recirc pushbutton lights and works and the recirc damper opens and closes.
The A/C works.
BUT just no air flow, it's as if a damper was closed inside blocking the air...

Anyone got any ideas ? Could I have pulled something loose while checking things
under the dash?

Thanks
Dans1
