How do knock sensors fail? 200

I have an intermittent minor spark knock that is driving me nuts....... timing is good, replaced all the vacuum lines and the fresh air bellows, gas is clean, and replaced Bosch plugs with NGK.

At times, the knock backs off quickly. At others, it doesn't. It is never severe. Two questions:


1) Does the knock sensor fail all at once, or gradually?

2) I just put a 92 B230F in my 91 240. Are there any ECM compatability issues that could be at play?
