hi, i my self do not own a volvo, im here because my sister who is in indianapolis has a 88' volvo 240dl and she is having a little problem with her auto tranny, and with me being in california its kinda hard for me to help her.
she says that it is sticking in gears and taking longer that usual between shifts. she said that the place she took it to when she had her oil changed said her tranny fluid was low and topped it off. ithis seems to have fixed the problem for about a week but now its getting worse than before that. is there a specific tranny oil for the volvo? if they put the wrong one in it could explain a little. she has 160k on it and i think she has the orignial tranny fluid in it. it is pretty cold were she is right now on indy like 10s and lower. she says it seems to get better when it warms up which seem right. but thats why im here asking because i know little about the specifics of volvos.
how would you check the trans fluid your self, like were about is the dip stick and does the car have to be turned on and in neutral? i dont know on this car.
If any body knows of a reputalble place to have your car worked on in indianapolis i would appreciate the info. i dont want her to continue to get taken at the stealership and jiffylube(ect).
thanks for any help its means alot.
