940 volvo starting & running issues, code 1-2-2?? air temp sensor?? 900

Got a 94 940 that has some start and running issues. Just bought it and drove it home. next time to sons b'day and was stranded in parking lot of Chucky Cheeze. Whats worse, the pizza place or stranded in PARKING LOT of pizza place?? Anyway, pulled the code and saw 1-2-2 which is supposed to be air temp sensor?? Will this sensor stop car from running or run really rough??? Where is it located on car?? I unplugged the electrical connection just behind the air box and made a small difference, for a while (minutes, not hours) and then running rough or stalling out with low idle. Im not a mechanic, but not an idiot either but cant afford to fix everything or just guess at several things. How can i FIND MY PROBLEM??? PLEASE? Thanks, Mark
