Hello All,
I've been fixing up my "new" 240 thanks to all the great info on the Brickboard. I've ran into a problem that I can't seem to figure out. When I got the car it made a clunking noise in the front left side. I traced the problem to a badly worn rear control arm bushing. All other bushings seem fine. The front strut inserts were also shot, you could push the front end down and it would be real slow to come back up. I replaced the left rear control arm bushing, and installed new Bilstien Touring strut inserts.
Now there is a squeaking or chirping in the front end. Sounds like a worn out mattress or old bicycle pump. I don't know if the squeaking was always there and masked by the clunking of the bad bushing, or if it is a result of the work done. The squeaking occurs most when going over small multiple "quick" bumps. It tends not to squeak over single bumps at higher speeds. The same squeak occurs when cranking the engine or shifting from drive to reverse with the car standing still. I can't reproduce the squeaking by shaking the car or engine. The engine mounts look fine. Any Ideas?
Thanks
Preston
