D'oh! Sorry for the previous blank post.
I had a couple of questions about using a multimeter to diagnose fuel problems on my 240. I know what Bentley says, but it sounds overly cautious. I'd like to get feedback from the Board.
1) Bentley says you should not connect test equipment with the ignition on. Is this right? Seems like a PIA if it is. For "ignition on" tests you would have to touch or connect the meter leads appropriately and then turn the key.
2) Bentley says something about how you have to have the battery disconnected to check resistance in a circuit. That sounded odd too.
3) Also, a couple of tests tell you to "ground terminal 21 (or 17) on the ECU connector." Do you just use a wire with alligator clips to connect this terminal to a ground screw or some other source of ground?
Thanks! I'm looking forward to doing diagnostics--instead of just being a parts changer--and I want to make sure I don't fry anything.
