Ignition (or power) amplifier 200 1989

I have a 1989 245 that is continually blowing ignition (or power) amplifiers. I have put a new one on (very expensive) to have it blow in under 2 years. I have also tried used ones. In under 4 years I have replaced the amplifier 4 times. Is there a reason why they stop working so quickly?
