reverse light switch 200 1999

My reverse light switch is diconnected, I found the wire under the carpet just aside the shifter. Is there a way to reconnect the switch on a manual transmission without lowering the transmission. If I'm lucky the switch will still be there and I only have to reconnect the wire. I would just like to know where exactly is the switch, so that I can feel it by hand. If I'm not lucky the switch will not be there and I'll have to put another one in, advise welcome.
