This is a followup to the squeal problem I reported in mid January.

After I was finally able to get the car to squeal while I was at my car repair shop, the mechanic used his "stethoscope" to locate the sound, and said it was coming from the alternator. He replaced it ($472 total, including $120 for 1 1/2 hours labor), and the squealing has stopped. So far, that seems to have been the problem.

Thanks to all of you who had ventured their opinions about the cause of the problem. Even though no one suggested the alternator, your information has alerted me to things to be on the lookout for.
