Overdrive Solenoid out, bypass plate in...now what? 200 1989

I bought the bypass plate from IPD and replaced the overdrive solenoid. I just finished switching them out but noticed that the wire that runs from the shift lever (auto tranny) and through the floor, down to the solenoid is chaffed and broken, so the majority of the wire is exposed copper.

There isn't a lot of room to maneuver down there...can I leave the wire dangling and exposed (since I've bypassed the solenoid) or should I snip it off, or disconnect it inside the shift lever housing inside the car (so that no current heads down that way)?
