1988 244 Auto started stumbling real bad when coming to a stop. Tach would drop down to 300 - 400 RPM's and the dash lights would come on like it was goind to die, then it would surge to life (most of the time). It did die a couple of times. Wifemobile gets the garage but I came home from golfing and the garage was empty - so, I pull in. Figured the stumble was due to a cruddy throttle body. I pulled it off and could see right away that the TB was just caked with sticky goo. Took the brass fittings out and cleaned them then cleared the little holes in the TB housing, sprayed carb cleaner lightly and manually wire brushed the inside of the housing and the butterfly edges, paper toweled the inside to get it clean and dry then put it back together. Drove hard and braked hard around the block and she runs perfectly. It had probably been 4 years since the last cleaning.
Changing the 3rd brake light was way harder than cleaning the TB - but I've got the 3rd brake light working too.
