Temperature Compensation Board By-pass Surgery, Failed? 200

I followed these instructions. Now the needle goes up to the dot in the middle of the temp gauge as soon as I start the car, and then creeps up to about 1/8" below the red as things heat up. I suspect this isn't as it is supposed to be, but before I tear into the instrument cluster again, I like to get confirmation of this and, possibly, some indication as to where I may have gone wrong.
Thanks,
Bob S.
