when to change fuel pumps 200 1992

The other day while I was driving on the freeway the car began hesitating badly and would slow down. I made it about a half mile to where I was going and then had the car towed home. I replaced the fuel pump relay and its been running fine since. I can hear both fuel pumps running but after 188,000 miles on the original pumps should they be replaced now or do they last longer or the life of the car typically? Any advice fellow Brickboard members offer on this subject is greatly appreciated.
