Soft Brake Pedal 200 1983

In this cold weather my brake pedal has gone soft. Car still stops but the pedal is very soft and it has to be pressed half way down to the floor. Sounds like a bad MC ?? MC is not leaking or losing fluid in anyway. Could it be anything else like the booster or check valve ? I know booster failure should make the pedal harder to depress, but I wanted to check before I spend the money and time replacing the MC. Advice from all you Brake Experts ??
