power steering leak and noise

Hi everyone. It's fairly clear that I need a new rack on my 93 940, for it's leaking badly, but it is also making a lot of noise even when reservoir is full, so does that mean the pump is shot too? Seems that several different racks (different makers at least) were used. Any easy way to tell what type I have? As always, thanks so much for the help.
