Intermittent miss 140-160 1972

My 72 164 with D Jet injection has an intermittent miss. While cruising along, the engine will suddenly and unexpectedly stop for a moment....about 1 second..... and then continue along without any problem. It seems like everything shuts down; not just half the injectors for example. I think this type of complete shutdown can be caused by:
--No fuel or fuel pressure
--Points or condensor failure.
--Injector signaling points(or whatever the dual points are called) in the base of the distributor
--poor or intermittent ground for one of the above.

I have eliminated all except the possibility of a poor ground or broken wire in one of the three wires connected at the base of the distributor to the injector signaling points. Right now the car is running fine so it may actually be impossible to find the fault. Nevertheless, I have two questions.

1. How can I test the wires from the base ignition points.
2. What else might account for a sudden momentary engine shutdown.

Thanks for all help
