Busted Sway bar linkage 1986 245DL 200 1986

Been at higher 75+ speeds having a very slight loose feeling in the steering. Thought it was loose steering from a worn rack. Just had the tires spin balanced and gave it a good look when up on the rack trying to addess the issue. This was been mildly noticeable for about a month or so. Never felt dangerous and steering was true and accurate. And at speeds below 65 no real issue.

Yesterday afternoon turning out of a parking lot felt a loud ka-thud from the passenger side front end. Made a lesser thump on almost every turn going home. Looked under when at home and the sway bar linkage had snapped right off clean just below the bead that hold the cap and bushing on the lower side. Looking at the break you can see that there was a crack that had been there long enough to show a wear (smooth rounded edge where the arm had moved back and forth. About 2/3 of the way through it finally snapped. Replaced it today and got her up to 85 without that slight feeling of loose in the steering.

Anybody else ever had one of these fail? And what else need to be looked at?

Regards,

PT
